Trawling your way through any Dead Island forums lately? Did you get a grasp around all the requests, ideas, rumors, winging and whining gamers have been making? Well we braved the trolls, the haters and noobs to get the low down on what gamers really want to see. We have The Top 8 Features fans want in Dead Island right here at your fingertips.
8. Day to Night and Weather cycles
Since the days of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time on Nintendo 64 we had the day to night and weather cycles. Dead Island fans have been describing the excitement of heading out at night, rummaging for supplies and weapons while dodging zombies.
Question has been asked "will there be a day night cycle?" "Will zombies be more active at night?"
The answer is probably no. Dead Island developers qoute
"there will be sections of the island when there’s night."
"We once experimented with this, but we gave it a completely calm. The levels are so prepared that each of them offering a different atmosphere. Especially in closed corridors is much darker than outside. Same recreation area remains the same – bathed in sunlight. Anyway, the main idea of the location of the game are zombies on a beautiful tropical island. If suddenly the entire resort would be covered by the shadow of clouds and rain began to fall, it would lose all of this unique atmosphere."
7. Modding capability
You only have to Google Half Life, Little Big Planet and the Battlefield franchise to see how far community modding can take a game. Fans know this and so should Techland but with recent games coming out with no modding support fans are asking the Question.
6. Something else to do besides killing zombies
Dead Island fans don’t want another action shoot’em up zombie clone and we think everyone knows developer Techland is going to deliver in this category. Any hardcore fan knows Dead Island is going to be a zombie survival rpg. Don’t worry you’ll still be capping zombies with your AK , but you will be spending the rest of your time gathering supplies while trying not to disturb the hoarde.
5. Large explorable buildings and environments
Its nearly the norm these days to develop a game where environments span 10 to 100 km’s long. Dead Island developers had already talked about the whole island being explorable with jungles, a town, a large hotel and more. The big question is will we find building after building locked up unable to explore. Fans have posted about the idea of being able to barricade them self in any building they wander past or break into a house to search for supplies.
No Answer yet to this burning question. Comment if you know.
4. 3rd person view
I’m a die hard FPShooter. I have never "loved" the 3rd person view but word is people want the option of both. Its nothing revolutionary as games have implemented both views before together, but will it compliment the gaming experience Dead Island will bring us. The official word is leaning towards it being a First Person Survival only.
3. Vehicles
Weather your driving a car, flying a heli or piloting a boat, you know going to have some fun and add another dimension to the game. We’ve been talking about vehicles in Dead Island for months and rumors have surfaced saying trucks, boats and cars will be drivable. The official Dead Island Achievements show a truck and developers have said vehicles will be a sizable part of the game.
2. Multiplayer
Co-op has been confirmed and fans are rejoicing but more multiplayer modes are being rumored. Everything from deathmatch and vehicle races to player controlled Zombies vs humans. L4d executed this well. Were all hoping for some casual Dead Island multi player fun.
1. A game true to the words "Zombie Survival"
Was it World War Z, Zombie Survival Guide, The Walking Dead or 28 Days later that destroyed our perception of normal life? Have you ever caught yourself looking out a 3 story balcony asking yourself "how do i get off this 3 story balcony if zombies have blocked my entrance?" When you go shopping do you spend to much money buying canned food? Did you turn your daughters bedroom into a safe room?
It may just be a fantasy but alot of fans want a game true to this. We’ve found a few quotes from fans that were to good to pass up.
"An atmosphere of loneliness when your character is walking through a deserted town with car all over the place and bodies decomposing everywhere"
"Survival by boarding up your house, putting up fence, installing hurricane shutters, and things like that would all be a big part of the game"
"your going to die if you don’t find a way to stay away from zombies, or stock your fortress up with food, water and supplies for many years"
"you need to think about conservation of fuel, ammo and supplies"
"running out into the open without checking or researching your path can get your overrun"
No game has given its fans a true feel of survival in a zombie catastrophe. We have a feeling Dead Island will break down the barriers and bring us a the first true Zombie Genre First Person Survival Rpg.
